Chris Henderson

Assistant Deputy Minister (Public Affairs)

Mr. Chris Henderson joined the Department of National Defence as Assistant Deputy Minister (Public Affairs) in October 2017.

His previous position was in the Canadian Coast Guard where he was Director General, National Strategies from May 2016 to the end of September 2017, the majority of which he spent filling the role of Deputy Commissioner, Strategy and Shipbuilding.

Prior to the Coast Guard, he worked for the Privy Council Office where he was Director General, Strategic Communications, from December 2014 until May 2016. In this role, he oversaw a team of strategic communications specialists responsible for the coordination of all Government of Canada public communications, including through the last election.

From 2009 to 2014, Mr. Henderson worked at the Canada Border Services Agency where he served successively as Director General, International and Partnerships and Director General, Training and Development. In 2007, he was appointed Director General, Public Affairs Strategic Planning at the Department of National Defence. Prior to joining the public service, he had a distinguished career with the Royal Canadian Navy serving at sea and as a public affairs officer.
