Advanced Short Range Missile

Replace Existing Systems with Newer or Different System

To acquire an advanced short range air-to-air weapon for the CF-188.

An advanced short range missile to replace the AIM-9M is required to counter current and emerging threats. This is an outstanding requirement from the CF-188 Incremental Modernization Program. Due to funding pressures during the program, the previously identified capability deficiency was never addressed. The new capability must provide an expanded engagement zone over the current AIM-9M and greater ability to overcome enemy offensive capabilities, countermeasures and engage small signature targets . The new weapon must also be supportable for the life of the CF-188 and the CF-188 replacement aircraft and provide interoperability with our allies. Current production versions of the SRAAM will allow the CF-188 to continue to fulfill the Defence of Canada/NORAD mission.
