CC-130J Block 8.1 Upgrade

In-Service Support

The CC-130J upgrade will ensure compatibility with the future European and North American airspace requirements.

The Block 8.1 upgrade is initiated by Lockheed Martin in consultation with the Joint User Group (JUG). The JUG is composed of allied nations that operate the C-130J, Canada being a key partner in this group. Block 8.1 is considered the baseline upgrade that all C-130J operators will be expected to obtain in order to ensure interoperability in a coalition theatre and compatibility with airspace requirements. Block 8.1 updates will provide additional capabilities such as communications, air traffic management, navigation and surveillance enhancements. The modifications will allow operators to meet the latest civil air traffic management regulations. Without the update, CC-130J aircraft will not be able to effectively operate globally in prescribed airspaces. Additionally, the upgrade also includes enhanced engineering diagnostic capability.
