DAG 2016 - Land Systems Services

Pistol Replacement

Information: New Proposal

For DAG 2016

Replace Existing Systems with Newer or Different System

Objective

The project will replace both in-service semi-automatic pistols the Browning 9mm and the Sig Sauer P225 9mm.

Requirements

The pistol is often employed as a secondary weapon but in some specific occasions where a less aggressive posture is adequate or where the area of operations is constraint the pistol become the preferred weapon of use. This project aimed primarily to replace both in-service pistols with a modern platform and accessories that fulfill all CAF requirements for personal defense against threats within a 25m range. The project will also investigate further the protection requirements for personal defense up to 200m using a compact rifle. Given the modern threat scenarios the investigation will determine which a pistol or a compact rifle is best to provide each category of user the right level of personal defense within all environments. The compact rifle uses the same ammunition as the assault rifle so it maintains its stopping power, accuracy and penetration. With a compact rifle the users are able to defend themselves from attack while performing their primary duties without being encumbered by the weapon itself.
