Objective

The Naval Materiel Regulatory Authority (NMRA) intends to establish a services contract with a second Classification Society to provide the NMRA and Class Design Authorities of non-combatant vessels with Classification Society services in support of the implementation of Naval Materiel Regulation.

Requirements

The Naval Materiel Authority is developing a Naval Materiel Regulatory framework (NMRf) and introducing naval classification and certification for ship safety areas, environmental protection, and other key naval materiel safety areas. The NMRf contract, awarded to LRCL in June 2015, provides Classification Society services to support naval materiel regulation for Royal Canadian Navy Combatant ships. The Non-Combatant Class Society (NCCS) contract will provide classification society services from a Transport Canada-Recognized Class Society to support naval materiel regulation of the remaining Royal Canadian Navy fleet of non-combatant ships, such as the Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship (AOPS), Joint Support Ship (JSS), Maritime Coastal Defence Vessel (MCDV), Orca-class Patrol Craft Training vessels, selected Auxiliaries, and smaller vessels.
