Contributions in support of the Military Training and Cooperation Program (MTCP)

The Military Training and Cooperation Program (MTCP) is a broad-based defence diplomacy program whose mandate is to develop and maintain reciprocal defence relations through cooperative, capacity-building projects with developing countries of strategic interest to Canada. The program achieves its objectives by:

  • enhancing peace support operations capacity and interoperability among Canada’s partners;
  • expanding and reinforcing bilateral defence relations;
  • promoting Canadian democratic principles, the rule of law and the protection of human rights; and
  • achieving influence in areas of strategic interest to Canada.

Eligible expenditures are those necessary to develop training and education initiatives in support of the program's objectives, such as language training, professional development and staff training, peace support operations training, and expert team and delegations visits.
