CAF Stories: Nadia Lamontagne – team captain, proud paddler
Video / March 24, 2016
My job is to get things moving. My name is Nadia Lamontagne. I’m a Leading Seaman. I am also a Naval Communicator at HMCS Montcalm for four years. I am the Team Captain and Captain of an icebreaker. My main role is to propel the canoe and to make decisions.
Practicing, it’s the first element you need to do to be ready for a team, but it’s also to establish a strategy for the race to avoid impulsive decisions during the race.
At first, I was very hesitant. I thought it was… it required hard work. It’s a little bit like a crazy game. I had friends who have shared with me their passion for ice canoeing. So, I decided to try it and I became addicted as quickly as they have been.
