Halifax Dental Detachment
HALIFAX Detachment Specific Information:
- Halifax Dental Detachment is located on the
third floor, bldg S-80, of the Commodore Archie McCallum Bldg. A satellite
clinic, serving 12 Wing Shearwater personnel, is located at Warrior Block 12
Wing Shearwater.

The detachment provides general dental services as well as periodontal, oral
surgical and prosthodontic services.

Hours of Operation:
- Regular clinic hours of operation, in Halifax,
are from 07:00 - 16:00 Monday to Friday
- Regular clinic hours of operation, in
Shearwater, are from 07:30-15:30 Monday to Friday
Sick Parade:
- In Halifax emergency dental care is provided
between 0700-0900 Monday to Friday.
- In Shearwater emergency treatment is provided
between 07:30-09:00 Monday to Friday.
- IMPORTANT: Service
is provided on first come, first served basis. To ensure you are seen in a
timely manner please report as early as possible since regular appointments
begin at 09:00hrs. Patients requiring urgent care will be given priority.
After Hours Emergency Procedure:
All CFDS Dental Detachments provide 24 hour/7 days a
week service. When in the Halifax area and outside of regular working hours
dental service can be obtained by contacting the following:
- Halifax switchboard #:902-427-0550 Ext. 8889;
- Treatment provided by a civilian practitioner
outside the above guidelines is subject to the conditions outlined in CFAO
35-3.
Enrolment Procedure:
- Dental enrolment exams are mandatory exams
provided between 0700 - 0900hrs Monday to Friday during Sick Parade only.
Scheduled appointments will not be given for enrolment exams.
- This requirement is outlined in CFAO
35-2 and is in accordance with QR&O
35.03
Release Procedure:
- Release exams are mandatory exams provided
between Monday to Friday during Sick Parade only. Scheduled appointments
will not be given for release exams.
- Members should have a release exam 6 months
prior to their release date. This is to ensure all required dental treatment
can be completed before the member's effective date of release.
- IMPORTANT: There is no required condition of dental fitness upon release. Unfinished work will not
be completed beyond a member's effective date of release.
- An actual forensic release charting will be
done within the member's last 30 days of active service.
- Release guidelines are outlined in CFAO
35-2 and are in accordance with QR&O

Screening Procedure:
- Screening exams for military members are
provided when required between Monday to Friday during Sick Parade only.
Scheduled appointments will not be given for Screening exams.
- This requirement is outlined in CFAO
35-2 and is in accordance with QR&O

- Screening exams for dependants and other
civilians are not provided by the CFDS detachment. Such screenings must be
performed in accordance with CFAO
35-5
Annual (Phase-1) Exam Procedure:
- Annual exams are provided at 12, 18 or 24
month intervals depending on the member's previous annual exam assessment.
- All CF members are reminded that it is
ultimately the member's responsibility to ensure they obtain an annual exam.
- Commanders and superiors are reminded they
have a responsibility to ensure their personnel are deployable and dentally
fit.
- All regular force members, reserve class
"C", and reserve class "B">180 days must receive an
annual exam as required in CFAO
35-2 and in accordance with QR&O

Regular Force Entitlement:
Regular Force members are entitled to dental
treatment as described in CFAO
35-4 and in accordance with QR&O
