Accessing Health Care

Medical Care During Normal Duty Hours

During normal working hours you should present yourself to the nearest CF medical establishment for medical care, in accordance with the directions published in routine orders. If you are not within a reasonable distance of a Canadian Forces medical establishment, you should contact the nearest support base, wing or unit for further instructions.

Medical Care After Normal Duty Hours

Outside of normal working hours, if you have an urgent medical problem, you may seek care directly from a local civilian facility. You should consider a medical problem urgent if you feel that you require medical attention before the next working day. Medication prescribed as a result of seeking after hours care for an urgent medical problem may be acquired from a civilian pharmacy.

MEDICAL EMERGENCIES

IN ANY EMERGENCY SITUATION, YOU MAY SEEK MEDICAL CARE FROM THE CLOSEST HEALTH CARE FACILITY WHERE THAT CARE IS LIKELY TO BE AVAILABLE. DURING NORMAL WORKING HOURS, AND IF FEASIBLE, YOU SHOULD REQUEST THAT SOMEONE CONTACT THE HCC AT YOUR SUPPORTING BASE, WING OR UNIT TO ADVISE THEM OF YOUR SITUATION.

Dental Care During Normal Duty Hours

Your local CF dental clinic is the primary site for all dental services. You will receive a pre-authorization form from this clinic should your dental care provider determine that you require off-site services.

Dental Care After Normal Duty Hours

Outside of normal working hours, your CF dental clinic is the primary site for your dental service except where local facilities are not available or are too distant. After hours, call the duty dental staff at the locally published number.

In cases where local facilities are not available or are too distant, you may seek care at the nearest available civilian facility. Call your respective base dental clinic on the next working day to inform them of your treatment and to obtain the location to which you will forward any invoice.
