Alcohol

Poster: Alcohol, other Drugs and Gambling

Alcohol is one of the most commonly used drugs, with over 95% of CF members consuming alcohol at least once in the past year. While the majority of individuals who drink, do so in moderation, alcohol use has been linked to many health and social concerns in our society. CF Alcohol Policies (below) outlines how some of these concerns are to be addressed in the CF.

In an effort to reduce the harm associated with alcohol use the Canadian Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) has published the Low-Risk Drinking Guidelines to help healthy adults of legal drinking age make an informed decision about the amount of alcohol they choose to drink. Strengthening the Forces recommends these guidelines for CF personnel who are not alcohol dependent. However, there are some people to whom these Guidelines do not apply. For more information, select Addictions Awareness Week below.

The Alcohol, Other Drugs and Gambling Awareness Program was released in November 2005 as part of the CF response to address issues of alcohol use in workplace. To register contact your Local Health Promotion Office.
