The Canadian Forces Parliamentary Program

The Canadian Forces Parliamentary Program (CFPP) is a non-partisan program designed to provide parliamentarians with a clearer understanding of issues facing DND/CF. The CFPP gives parliamentarians hands-on experience in Navy, Army, and Air Force activities. As part of the program, Members of Parliament or Senators shadow an officer, typically a Major, and are fully integrated into one of the CF environments. They participate in training exercises, learn how equipment works, and take part in operational activities. It is to be emphasized that parliamentarians participate in existing CF programming. The CF does not create programming to accommodate the CFPP.

The CFPP is offered exclusively to parliamentarians who, as participants, are not treated as VIPs. It has about 15 participants per year, and is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. We have received very positive feedback from participants.
