Equipment Procurement
Schedule / Cost Increase
- The System Development and Demonstration (SDD) phase of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program, like most design and development phases of complex programs has experienced delays and cost increases which the US Department of Defense (US DoD) has covered.
- Canada’s financial commitments have not changed from what was negotiated in 1997, 2002 and 2006.
- The price that Canada will pay is the unit recurring flyaway (URF) cost in the year of delivery (the actual cost of the aircraft in production).
- Canada will purchase most of the CTOL variants at their peak of production when costs are projected to be the lowest.
- The current US administration has made the JSF program a top priority and they have taken steps to increase oversight and seek realistic costing.
